What is the Difference Between Hemp Oil and Cannabis Oil?
Hemp oil comes from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant; cannabis oil comes from the flowers of the same plant. Hemp oil contains traces of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Cannabis oil contains high levels of CBD and/or THC. CBD and THC are cannabinoids or chemical compounds derived from the cannabis plant.
Hemp CBD is used for mainly health and nutrition purposes. Cannabis CBD is used mainly in medications to treat illnesses. THC is a psychoactive compound that can make people high. It is also a wonderful treatment for diverse illnesses and conditions of mind and body. CBD is legal in many nations; THC is illegal in most nations.
Medical Jane sums it up perfectly: The term cannabis (or marijuana) is used when describing a Cannabis Sativa plant that is bred for its potent, resinous glands (known as trichomes). These trichomes contain high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid most known for its psychoactive properties. Hemp, on the other hand, is used to describe a Cannabis Sativa plant that contains only trace amounts of THC. Hemp is a high-growing plant, typically bred for industrial uses such as oils and topical ointments, as well as fiber for clothing, construction, and much more. Only products made from industrial hemp (less than 0.3% THC) are legal to sell, buy, consume, and ship. This single factor (0.3%) is how most people distinguish between what is classified as “hemp” and what is classified as “cannabis.”
Confusion in the Labels
Confusion abounds on the labels of hemp oils and cannabis oils. There are several differences. Some companies label their hemp oil as CBD oil. Others say that their CBD is hemp oil. The layman must then figure out the difference! Both oils come from the Cannabis sativa plant. Both oils, however, contain varying levels of cannabinoids.
Hemp oil, for example, contains less than 0.3% THC yet high CBD levels. It is used in industry to make things from its fiber. It is used in the health industry as a nutritional panacea. Cannabis containing high levels of THC is also known as marijuana. It is mostly illegal as it makes the user high and can worsen some health issues. It can also be very useful, however, in the treatment of chronic diseases but must be used as part of a certified health plan.
Hemp Oil is Different from Cannabis Oil
Hemp is a very useful plant. Hemp can be manufactured into paper, cloth, flooring, fuel, wax, glue, rope, furniture, toothbrushes, household accessories and more. Hemp is found in cosmetics, clothing and foods. Hemp seeds are very nutritious and can be eaten raw or cooked. The oil comes from the seeds and is also very beneficial in the diet. Eat raw hemp seeds to help lose weight, boost the immune system, keep blood sugars balanced, reduce inflammation, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The seeds are packed with protein which is easy to digest. Hemp seeds and the oil contain the perfect balance of omega 3 and 6, essential fatty acids. It also contains omega 9, linoleic acid and gamma linoleic acids. People seek this oil out in health shops.
Cannabis oil contains cannabinoids which can treat diseases in the body. The body comprises several systems, one being the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS produces many endocannabinoids which bind to cannabinoid receptors to stimulate them and treat illnesses in the body. Cannabinoids in the cannabis plant can also bind to these receptors and have a similar impact on the body. CBD and THC are the main cannabinoids used in medical cannabis to treat hundreds of common illnesses and chronic diseases.
Cannabis Oil Quality
Quality CBD oil is screened for purity and is deemed legal for medicinal purposes. THC oil is not legal in many parts of the world. It can only be consumed as part of a legal medical treatment plan. THC treats cancer patients, for example. Keep hemp oil at home as an all-round health supplement. It is not regulated at all. Make sure you get your cannabis oil from a recognised and reputable source.
