What is Shatter?

Cannabis concentrates are the latest trend when we look at how the cannabis industry is evolving. Cannabis concentrates come in a variety of forms and are also known by different names, such as shatter, wax, oil, resin or dabs. Regardless of the name, all cannabis concentrates have one thing in common, they are all extracted from the cannabis plant. Cannabis concentrate basically is able to pack all the power of the cannabis plant into a micro dose, the result is that cannabis concentrates are quite expensive for the quantity produced. A gram for example can easily cost in excess of R1500 and some of the top stuff can top out at R2500 per a gram.

While some cannabis concentrates will vary in texture, they all undergo the same basic process when being produced. Most of the high end producers will use a solvent to extract the concentrate. Once the solvent is evaporated off, you are left with a pure concentrate.

In the picture above, you will see what is commonly referred to as Shatter, its is a type of concentrate that is very popular on the market currently. Shatter, looks honey in colour and looks like glass when hard, if you drop it then it will shatter. Hence the name.

If you are looking for an insane high, then you need to use a “rig”, a “rig” is a glass water pipe that looks very similar to a bong. You then use a heating element to heat up the shatter and then you inhale the vapour. This is not for the faint of heart and only experienced smokers should consider using Shatter, it really is the Ferrari of smoking.
